Miss Kasumi, Kew (Invited)

The restaurant stategically situated in the heart of Kew on High Street.
Though it’s newly opened couple months back, this contemporary Japanese restaurant has successfully impressed us through their food and customer service up to the professional standard.
We went there on the weekday and it was raining, not a good weather;
surprisingly the place was still busy, surely they’ve won Melbournians’ heart and neighbourhood.

The interior design is modern, clean, minimalist and bright without leaving the Japanese authenticity.
The place is very spacious which makes this restaurant a versatile spot for all sort of functions.
As soon as you step in to this restaurant, you’ll be served and welcomed by a friendly customer staff.
The vibe and environment was absolutely fantastic, cosy and relaxing with the background music.
The customer service was friendly, attentive, professional and knowledgeable on the food.

While looking at the food menu, we order couple drinks recommended by the staff:
– Monkey Business (cocktail)
I was intriqued to try this cocktail as soon as I read the name.
It’s a combination of Wu Liangye Chinese liquor, Campari, Banana Liqueur, Light Cream.
The taste was pretty good from those combination and unique, we’ve never tried similar drink like this before.
It was a great experience and ambigu taste in the good way as you’re wondering what they taste was.

– Hanamura
It was fruity and flowery taste of drink, inside they put goji berry and sweet osmanthus flowery.
The taste was fantastic and refreshing. It had little bit sour and sweet taste.
Anyway, it was splendid and very recommended the non-alcoholic drink.

In this invite, we’re pleased to try their popular banquet set “Kasumi Ildulgence” – 10 course.
Starter:
– Chef’s assorted seasonal platter.
On that day, we’ve got 3 stacks of glass dish consisting of fresh seaweed, radish and crumbed smoked pork belly with shredded chilli.
The pork belly was amazing; It was well deep fried, crunchy from outside and tender inside.
It wasn’t greasy or oily. The taste was very balance and the texture was great.
It’s small size of smoked pork belly but for sure it’s a great starter to increase your appetite for the next treat.

Cold Appetizer
– Angus Beef Tataki
Flamed black angus scotch fillet, sliced served with fried garlic, onion and garlic vinaigrette.
They have a creative way to serve the beef tataki using the garlic.
It had little bit sour and savoury taste and it was very refreshing.
The beef was very soft and tender.
For those who don’t really like garlic or onions, maybe it’s not the best option to choose.
But for those who don’t mind having little bit strong garlic taste, this beautiful dish was definitely recommended.
Personally, it’s one of our favorites.

– Salmon Tartar with Crispy Rice
The salmons were generously and freshly served on top of crispy seasoned rice.
The dish had pretty good texture and well presented.
Remember to dip with the avocado sauce before you eat that to make this taste even sophisticated great.

Hot Appetizer
– Nama Shii Hotate
Mashed baby scallop served with quail eggs and topped with shiitake mushrooms.
Yummm, I wish I could order this more. The scallop was blended in perfectly with quail eggs, I reckon it’s creative idea to combine those ingredients.
Presentation wise was alright, but the taste was outstanding, perfect balance.
It was a perfect option for a vegetarian.

– Prosciutto Wrapped Oysters
Fresh oysters in tempura style wrapped with prosciutto and home made sauce.
On the other hand, this dish was also flavourful and Nice presentation.
Personally, we loved Nama Shii Hotate compared to prosciutto 🙂

Our next journey was the tempura set which consisted of shiitake, Enoki, sweet potato and king prawn.
All of them were well deep fried and battered, still warm and crispy. The taste was fantastic and well seasoned.
Unfortunately, it’s slightly little bit oily, little bit drainage would make this one a perfect one.

All dishes were beautifully presented and very appealing.
Overall, we had great dine experiences and considered as one of the best Japanese degustation experiences we’ve had so far.
In addition, it was an absolutely great value for this amazing quality of food and definitely you’ll get great experience by having
their 10 course menu “Kasumi Ildulgence” for $125.00 (a unique served of starter, cold appetiser, cold hot, sushi / sashimi plates, tempura, soup, mushroom rice,
main dish and dessert.

Sushi Entree
– Deluxe Sushi Selection (4 pcs)
Very generous portion of sushi sashimi.
On that day, we’ve got Salmon, King Fish, Snapper, Tuna and Caviar.
They’re all freshly served and the taste was stunning.

We ordered an additional sushi apart from the set.
We had Anago (saltwater eel) and Hotate (Hokkaido Scallop).
Both of them were WOW!
The sushi was perfectly and freshly made.
The sushi chef was friendly and he’s a gun!!

The next one was mushroom rice and Shimeji Shumono soup before going to the main dish.

Main
– Wagyu Steak
Wagyu sirloin, grilled and served with mushroom miso sauce.
The wagyu steak was perfectly grilled and well seasoned.
Again, the chef nailed all beef dishes.
Loved the quality of the beef served as it was really good and premium.

– Miso Crusted Lamb Cutlet
Grilled lamb cutlets with miso crust and topped with crispy spinach.
The lamb was nicely cooked and well seasoned. However, we found that it was slightly tough and not so tender. Surely, it’s not the best we’ve ever tried.

Finally, we had dessert, matcha ice cream.
Yummmmm, what can go wrong with matcha ice cream.
It was tasty and creamy. The presentation of their dessert was very appealing, Yummy!
Still thinking about it while writing this blog XD
