Vapiano tucked in the small Flinders Lane, in heart of the city amongst Melbourne’s famous lane ways and shopping.
Proven to be one of the most successful Italian Restaurants across Australia by having many branches in other states: Sydney, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Canberra and Melbourne.
We’re so delighted to be invited to taste their new winter menu and be among the first to sample Nutella Fondue and Pumpkin Soup.
As soon as I arrived, I was warm welcomed by the friendly customer staff.
The customer service was exceptional, professional and knowledgeable.
It looks like a small restaurant from outside, entrance from Flinders Lane.
You would see a small bar and several tables for small group at the ground floor.
When you go to the first floor, you’ll be surprised to see that the place is very spacious, clean, modern with minimalist design.
This Italian restaurant is very versatile for any occasions, private function or even bring your date cause they do have the more intimate section at the corner section.
In Vapiano, you’re given a customer card and you need to order the food / drinks from different sections (Pasta/Risotto, Pizza/Lasagna, Salad & Antipasti and Bar for your drink).
You’ll be paying later when you want to leave the restaurant by handing your card back.
I reckon, it’s great great business concept and customers could take their convenient time to pick and choose your food without being patronised by the the customer staffs.
To start of my Vapiano experience, I ordered I cappuccino to warm myself up.
It came really fast served warm.
The first new winter dish was the Pumpkin Soup.
This hearty Pumpkin Soup was beautifully presented with little bit of white texture on top of the nice yellow color from pumpkin.
Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top of the soup and little bit of mint leaves to give extra nice fragrant.
Toasted ciabatta (high quality from Bakers Maison) breads were served on the side of the soup.
The bread was perfectly toasted. The texture was soft and it was also crispy at the edge of the bread.
The texture of the pumpkin soup was thick and the taste was rich and balance; It wasn’t too overwhelming, so it’s a perfect starter especially in the Winter time.
The soup was also served in the perfect temperature, so you can quickly scoop it or even dip with the ciabatta bread.
It’s a stunning dish, the base pumpkin soup wasn’t too sweet and the Parmesan cheese added little bit savoury taste which made everything balance and flavourful.
Honestly, I am not a big fan of pumpkin soup, for this one it’s exceptional.
The next course was Bolognese (Italian-style beef and pork, onions, carrots, cherry tomatoes in homemade tomato sauce).
I chose gnocchi pasta and since it’s winter time, I’d like to opt for chilli and cheese on top of my bolognese.
The pasta was perfectly cooked and well seasoned.
The bolognese had a perfect balance and the mince beef and pork infused perfectly with the sauce.
I’d suggest to opt for a chilli if you have good spicy tolerance cause it would give you an extra spiciness.
Personally, I loved it and “perfezionare” in the winter time 🙂
Finally, Nutella Fondue served in 4 cute small bowls. They were marshmallows, strawberries and chocolate brownie bites with a warm choc Nutella dipping sauce.
The strawberries were very fresh and sweet.
The best part was the warm chocolate Nutella dipping, it wasn’t too sweet as it was a perfect composition combined in with Dark chocolate.
No worries, you won’t feel sugar overwhelming to have this dessert!
