Monochrome Coffee and Tea, South Yarra (Invited)

nochrome Coffee and Tea is a newly opened cafe (just couple months old) situated in busy Toorak Road, South Yarra.
Perfectly located, just minutes away from South Yarra station and a minute walking distance to tram stop if you use public transport and plenty on the street car parks available along Chapel Street or Toorak Road.
We’re glad to be invited by Monochrome’s team to have brunch and coffee experience in this cafe.

As soon as we arrived, we simply loved the modern minimalist interior design and table set up. The impression of this cafe was clean, modern and bright with the natural sunlight coming inside the coffee shop.
The cafe is not too spacious but they’re still able to cater for a small group of people (15-20 people in total).
The customer service was nice and friendly.
The vibe and environment were cosy and comfortable.

We ordered cappuccino and matcha latte to start off our foodie experience.
Both cappuccino and matcha latte were served warm and fast.
The taste of cappuccino was balance and perfectly made!
The matcha latte was nicely presented, unfortunately it wasn’t our liking because it was slightly too sweet.
For us, matcha latte should have a balance taste between the bitter and sweet taste.
This matcha latte is perfect for sweet drink lover.

For the main we ordered:
– Sesame Buckwheat Soba (cold dish)
*Japanese buckwheat soba noodles, flying fish roe, roasted sesame, edamame, watercress, seaweed salad, dried shaved bonito, cherry tomatoes, radish, shichimi chili powder, pickled ginger, a poached egg with sesame & honey creamy dressing.
Sesame Buckwheat Soba was beautifully presented and the portion was generously served.
It’s very appealing just by looking of the attractive colour chosen from different components.
The poached egg was perfectly cooked.
The overall taste was delicious and everything was freshly served.

– Smoked Salmon (cold dish)
*Smoked salmon with greens, pesto, avocado, sesame, buckwheat, pepitas pumpkin, cherry radish and poached free range egg.
At a glance the Smoked Salmon has a similar texture and presentation to Sesame Buckwheat Soba. The presentation was nice and very appealing.
The smoked salmon was perfectly seasoned.

Finally, we had Sour Cherry Lemon Cake for our dessert; The lemon cake wasn’t too sweet and wasn’t too sour either.
It’s a perfect companion with the fantastic coffee made by Monochrome!

Monochrome serves great coffee, however you wouldn’t find any complicated or sophisticated brunch dishes in this cafe.
They serve a brunch salad style of dishes which is served quickly and fresh.

This cafe has potential to grow by having more creative and sophisticated mainstream dishes to compete with other cafes to accompany the great coffee made by them!

Taste : 3.5
Speed: 3.0

Yay: Cappuccino, Sesame Buckwheat Soba (cold dish)

Note: We’d like to say thank you to Monochrome’s team for the invite.
