We visited this hidden gem during a bright sunny afternoon and just love the rustic cafe. Located just in the corner of Bridge Street and Ross Street, this heritage building is hard to be missed. The seating inside was not too spacious so might not be suitable for large group, but they have much spacious eating place outdoor and pet friendly too!
This place is specialised in cakes and pastries, all homemade in this very cafe. They have an open kitchen which you can see from inside the cafe. Tartisan also offers brunch menu that are mainly “tartine” or French for ‘open faced sandwich’ – which is also apparent from its name. Most of the dishes are thick slices of Cobb Lane Bakery sourdough, lightly toasted and topped with savoury combos.
We ordered their cappuccino which used Seven Seeds coffee and also tried their Earl Grey Latte. The latte was a bit too milky hence overpowered the tea by bit, will be much better if the tea can be stronger so that the fragrance and taste still but stronger compared to the current ratio. But overall it is still enjoyable 🙂
What we had:
- Coffee cured salmon – mild coffee notes on the salmon and a hint of coffee taste that enhance the fresh salmon on the tartine. The tartine is just fab – so soft and just go well together with the toppings. Definitely a delight to eat especially for breakfast!
- Confit duck – confit duck leg, white bean puree, fresh peach and mint salsa, crispy parmesan shards. There was generous amount of confit duck leg, it went well with the white bean puree. I wasn’t too sure about the peach initially in the dish but if you eat it together it gives you the acidity for the overall dish 🙂
We also sampled some of their homemade sweet pastries which several of them come in vegan and/or dairy free options. We tried their Flourless Chocolate Cake consists of 70% dark chocolate and almond cake with cocoa buttercream and toasted almond flakes- the texture was as good as the normal cake but it was tad too sweet for our preference. Our favorite was their moist Homemade Banana Bread – make sure you asked it to be toasted first and served with the butter. It’s simply fragrant and so soft and good. Balanced taste of banana and not too sweet. Even better when you eat it with tea or coffee.
Overall, our visit was truly enjoyable. The customer service is just top notch, they genuinely serve you with a smile and totally take good care of the customers well. The place is also cozy and nice especially if you like to just sit by the window and enjoy your good cuppa while reading your fave books. This place also offered custom made cake which looks so pretty and comes in good value price as well. Just have a look at their website for full range of cakes. We will definitely come back 🙂
