Shinbashi Melbourne is located in the main Lygon Street, Carlton area – it is easily found and in a relatively short distance walk from the nearest tram stop from Swanston St.
Shinbashi offers wide range of proteins from wagyu, seafood, chicken and pork in Japanese BBQ style.
They offer a semi tatami style seating with charcoal pit for a more Japanese ambience.
We sampled various meats with a group of other passionate foodies. Our personal favorite would be their Premium Ox Tongue (definitely my fave! Thinly sliced perfect to eat by itself or with rice – oh so Asian of me), Wagyu Harami, MB6 Wagyu Sirloin and their juicy and tender Ocean Prawns Jumbo with various veggies.
If you come in a bigger group you might opt for the Wagyu Deluxe Trio 360gr which consists of Wagyu Oyster Blade, Wagyu Short Ribs and Wagyu Marbled Beef.
Wagyu Harami and Wagyu Short Rib offered 9+ grade of marbling, so soft and tender though it is not to the extent that it will melt in your mouth.
If you opted for a tad tougher one for each bites, you might prefer the short rib more. We really enjoyed the Harami, Sirloin and the Oyster Blade.
Do not worry to grill your own meats since they will let you know how to grill the perfect wagyu – 30-40 secs on one side and the flipped it –
then take the protein out of the heat after it reaches the level that you want. If you don’t want to keep count the secs,
just checked the meats once in a while, when it is no longer sticking to the metal then it’s pretty much done 🙂
The secret of their delicious meats, not only on the seasoning and the quality of the meats, but also their dipping sauce! Their homemade dipping miso sauce is so delicious.
We also tried their Nabeyaki Udon topped with Katsuobushi (dried fermented fish product also known as those papery-looking fish flakes on top of Okonomiyaki) and
fried shrimp tempura. The soup is clear and just mild not overly seasoned just perfect to clean your palate especially after the BBQ.
PS: They also feature a 90 minute BBQ buffet Mon-Wed evenings for $60pp, which also features a delicious selection of premium quality wagyu!
