Hakata Gensuke, Carlton (Invited)

Lots of Ramen Bars spread in Melbourne, but it’s still a challenge to find a decent one. Luckily, we have Hakata Gensuke that gives confidence to Melbournian to be one of the best ramen bars in Melbourne.
We’re glad to be invited in the Grand Opening of a new branch Hakata Gensuke in Carlton on March 2019.

It’s the youngest and fifth branch opened in Carlton, Melbourne. Hakata now spreads their wing to northern suburb in Carlton, ramen lovers living in north suburb do not need to travel to CBD to enjoy this ramen speciality.
Kousuke Yoshimura (founder of Hakata Gensuke) came from Japan to train the staffs and did a grand opening speech.
We’re so lucky to try the amazing ramen made by the founder, Mr. Yoshimura on that day.

This ramen shop was clean and had an authentic modern Japanese looking.
The customer service was absolutely amazing, friendly and very attentive.

We ordered:
1. Yatai Tonkotsu
* Noodle texture: Hard, Saltiness: Normal (Japanese Taste) served with Spring onion on top.
* Added the toppings: Black fungus, flavoured egg, Cha-shu (3 pieces)
“Yatai”, means open air food stands, are possibly the best known city symbol of Fukuoka.
It was also the origin of Hakata Tonkotsu ramen, a humble bowl of noodles that loved by all local Hakata people.

Noodle was perfectly made and had nice presentation.
The broth soup was flavourful and had rich taste;
Other toppings such as, flavoured egg, Cha-shu and Black fungus were perfectly executed and well seasoned.
Loved Yatai Tonkotsu as we could enjoy the original broth.

2. Spicy Ramen | God Fire level 1.
* Noodle texture: Hard, Saltiness: Normal (Japanese Taste) served with Spring onion on top.
* Added the toppings: flavoured egg, Cha-shu (3 pieces)
Level 1? I know!!! we’re quite afraid to try higher level judging by the name “God Fire”.
For us, it’s a perfect level and glad to choose level 1 because we could certainly enjoy having the soup broth
with enough of spiciness inside the broth.

If you’re a spicy lover, you must try from level 3; We’re okay with the spicy food, we enjoyed the ramen in level 1.
We’ll try level 2 the next time we’re visiting Hakata Gensuke, we believe it’s still bearable.
Very consistent ramen noodle cooked, everything touched and made in perfection by Mr.Yoshimura.

3. Fried Gyoza (5 pieces)
The gyoza was perfectly seared and had a balance taste. For us, it’s a perfect companion when you’re having ramen!

Overall, very consistent and never disappointing to have ramen in Hakata Gensuke. Surely, it’s a “Go to” place when we’re craving of ramen.

Note: We’d like to say thank you to Hakata Gensuke’s team for having us.
