Qipo Skewer Bar is a hidden gem located in a small alley (to be exact: Sutherland St, Melbourne) next to Melbourne Star Apartment CBD.
It’s an established sichuan hot pot restaurant that brings a new dining experience to Melburnians.
We’re glad to be invited by Qipo Skewer Bar’s Team to experience food journey.
No worries, you hardly miss Qipo due to the cute artwork on the glass window and had the light showing logo on the road.
We came on Sunday dinner time and it was busy full with people enjoying the hot pot which is perfect during Autumn-Winter season.
The vibe and atmosphere were fun, energetic and cosy; You’ll be seeing many people passing around as the nature of the business is self-service food.
This place was quite spacious, perfect for small or big group.
The customer staffs were attentive and friendly.
Qipo Skewer Bar dining rules:
Step 1. Select the soup base : Spicy Soup, Mushroom Soup, Seafood Soup, Tomato Soup, Half Spicy Half No Spicy
Step 2. Selecting sauce (optional)
Step 3. Choose any food you like in the fridge
(Optional) Steam Rice, Fried Rice or Fried Rice Cake
You can ask for a Spicy level if you’re spicy lover or a mild one if you aren’t.
We opted for Half Spicy (Spicy Soup – Medium level) Half No Spicy (Mushroom Soup).
For us, it’s enough spicy and surely we enjoyed the soup broth; We wouldn’t enjoy if we ordered the spicier level than this.
Both soup base were very tasty and flavourful; We’d suggest that you don’t drink the spicy soup base because it contains lots of chilli oil, on the other hand you may have the Mushroom soup broth by itself.
Now when it came to Step.2: Sauce recipe, check out the tips from different self-claiming expert … LOL
Mr. Epi – Capsicum Frutescens (5%), Garlic (15%), Sesame Oil (20%), Sesame Paste (30%),
Caraway (5%), Peanut (5%), Chicken Powder (5%), Sesame (5%), Chilli Powder (10%)
Mrs. Epi – Sesame Oil (10%), Garlic (10%), Red Bean Curd Preserved (5%), Leek Flower Sauce (10%) Sesame Paste (45%), Caraway (10%), Chicken Powder (10%)
The winner was Mrs. Epi, actually she made a stunning sauce composition; Mine wasn’t too bad (actually bit meeehhhh …) but her one was much better.
So please refer to Mrs. Epi secret composition 🙂
For starter, we ordered Fried Rice Cake; It was perfectly deep fried and wasn’t greasy.
It was crunchy from the outside and soft from the inside. There was a sauce glazed on top of the Rice Cake to add extra flavors and texture.
Great dish before you have your BIG meal!
The meats and vegetables served hygiene in cold fridge and often replenished with the fresh one (left hand side fridges).
On the right hand side, you can have the option to choose meat balls, fried been curd, inoki mushrooms and other food served in plate which is freshly and cleanly covered in cling wrap.
We had Lucky Bag, Broccoli, Chicken, Spicy Beef, Pickled Chilli Bean, Pig Skin, Pork Belly, Pork Ribs, Celery Beef Rolls, Chilli with Beef.
In total we had 24 skewers + meat balls, fried bean curd and innoki mushrooms; They’re definitely more than enough for us.
Ohhh for drinks, we had (soda water); Well, you MUST order these drinks if you’re not good in spicy food cause
it would soothe your burning throat.
Finally, we had to sum up our food journey; It was beautifully presented and very light dessert, you won’t be struggling though you’re full.
Inside, you would find sliced water melon, jelly, sultana, peanuts and dried fruits!
You MUST try this one when you’re visiting Qipo.
Note: We’d like to say thank you to Qipo Skewer Bar’s team for having us.
