Grand Lafayette is a young Asian-inspired cafe situated on Clifton Street, Prahran; it’s tucked away from the busy Chapel St.
They strive to bring Melbourne Locals the modern and authentic taste of Japanese cuisine.
We’re glad to be invited by Grand Lafayette’s team to have foodie experience.
The cafe was spacious, bright and clean fitted with modern industrial fitout with high ceilings and concrete floors.
The vibe and atmosphere were cosy and great.
Firstly we ordered Matcha Matcha and Monster’s Drink (Angelet).
- Matcha Matcha
This shakes looks insanely beautiful, definitely instagram-worthy beverage.
The taste itself was like matcha latte but a lot more icy.
Recommended to try this if you are a matcha lover.
I personally would prefer to drink a simple ice matcha latte than this fancy drink to enjoy. - Monster’s Drink (Angelet)
This drink was quite fancy too which we we have to pour a glass of coconut water into a glass of ice topped with a sphere of your favourite flavours and I chose rose for my drink.
If you are Singaporean, you would find this taste similar to “Bandung”.
Otherwise, it was basically a drink consists of rose syrup and condensed milk.
For our main and dessert, we ordered the following dishes:
- Salmon & Soba Bowl
The dish was quite delightful with the salmon and their special sauce on top.
However, It could be better if they put less sesame paste on the noodle because it was too overpowering which made the noodle very sticky and left unpleasant aftertaste on my mouth.
Also, it would be so much better if the portion of Salmon & Soba Bowl was little bit more generous.Salmon & Soba Bowl
- Confit Duck
Overall, this dish was excellent. Every little details on this dish were perfect for each other.
The duck meat was tender and the sauce compliments the meat really well.
Again, from our opinion the portion was slightly too small from the similar dish we had on another place.
- Raindrop Cake
Rose – If you are curious about their signature raindrop cake, definitely try the rose flavour.
The rose flavour is pretty strong yet not too overpowering and it compliments the jelly really well.
Matcha – for a matcha lover like me, Im really disappointed .
Unlike the rose, I can’t really taste the matcha flavour. The taste was quite bland.
Overall, we still had a good time in Grand Lafayette and we believe there are some minor improvements that need to be applied to make this cafe stands out among others.
Note: We’d like to say thank you to Grand Lafayette’s team for having us.
