We are pretty excited to be invited to Minh Minh Saigon Soul event that night.
We came with pretty high expectations with its such high review on Zomato.
Minh Minh Saigon Soul is located in the main Victoria Street in Richmond.
Initial impression was that of a buzzing and lively crowd in a cozy environment straight out of a Chinatown shop.
We were led upstairs to a quieter environment with lovely murals of the busy Saigon streets.
It was definitely a direct contrast upstairs where the lighting was dim and the music playing was a tad too loud modern indie pop.
We ordered 2 entrees (Lalot & Sexy Crispy Quail) and 2 Mains (Sexy Chef & South East Asia Prawn).
The Sexy Chef Main was served first, followed by the Lalot entrée. It is always a delight to see your dish arriving in style with live flames surrounding a foil wrapped beef stir fry laced with peking sauce.
The beef was tender but definitely not crispy despite the descriptions.
The sauce was very sweet and goes well with a bowl of rice.
Lalot which was meant to be our entrée was certainly unique – beef wrapped in leaves almost like a grilled sausage.
Packed with flavour and just the right amount of tenderness.
Half an hour later our second entrée arrived, the crispy quail.
While the quail itself was unfortunately rather dry, the dressing however was to die for.
Chilli, onion and all sorts of herbs mixed together to give the quail a strong kick of flavour.
Definitely our highlight of the night.
Unfortunately, that was the end of our night as despite waiting for over an hour the rest of our orders (Prawn mains and drinks) failed to arrive.
Two additional inquiries about the order was made to no avail and it was clear that our order was sadly forgotten.
The lack of available staff upstairs did not help the cause.
While Minh Minh Saigon shows potential with its innovative menu and some delicious selections – it was unfortunately overall let down by its service (or lack of).
Note: We’d like to say thank you to Minh Minh Saigon Soul’s team for having us.
