Temperance Society, Hughesdale (Invited)

Temperance Society is a brunch cafe opened in 2016 taken a spot of the old milk bar and transformed to a cool and vibrant cafe loved by locals and neighborhood.
They also offer an array of creative and interesting brunch dishes and drinks;
The team behind Temperance Society has a massive experience, so you’ll be amazed when you’re here!
We’re glad to be invited by Temperance Society’s team to have brunch experience.

We visited Temperance society on the weekend after the peak hour around 2 PM and we’re expecting the cafe to be little bit quiet so we don’t feel bad to bother other customers when we’re doing sort of photo actions.
Though it’s off peak hour, we’re surprised that the cafe was still busy with customers occupying both outdoor and indoor spots enjoying good food, coffee and sunny weather in Melbourne.
The cafe is quite spacious and it has 2 outdoor spots (one is near the entrance and another one is at the back outdoor which was the spot we picked) and 1 indoor spot.

We loved the minimalist, clean and simple interior design;
The vibe and atmosphere were also amazing, it made us want to stay longer; in fact, we became their last customers, just before the closing time.

At first, we ordered Cappuccino and Smoothie – Passion Pop (Passion fruit, mixed berries, mango, coconut flakes, honey & organic almond milk).
The cappuccino had a great taste and gave you enough kick! The overall taste was balance.

We also loved the Smoothie – Passion Pop. The taste was refreshing, wasn’t sweet and wasn’t too thick.
In other typical brunch places, we often struggle finish up the Smoothie cause usually the smoothie is too rich / thick and has an overly strong taste;

As per usual @whatepieats visit, often we order two savory dishes and one sweet dish; @Temperance Society, we’ve been eying their two signature sweet dishes – hotcake and chocolate planet. Let’s see how it goes 🙂

  • Carrot & Zucchini Fritters
    Served with roquette, honey labneh, dukha, sesame seeds, smoked tomato chutney, avocado & sweet potato crisps added egg & bacon.
    Carrot & Zucchini Fritters were amazing. They’re perfectly fried and weren’t greasy.
    Inside, it wasn’t dry and had a balance taste; Both carrot & zucchini blended in perfectly.
    In most places, you often get corn & zucchini fritters; in Temperance Society, they’re so creative to use other vegetables without changing the overall flavour and taste.
    Fritter is one of our favorite dishes, their fritters definitely meet out expectation.
  • Seven Herbs Baramundi
    It’s a seared baramundi, zoodle salad, quinoa, lemon honey dressing & tomato chutney.
    Barramundi was perfectly grilled on the top side, middle side was well cooked.
    It’s bit tricky to serve fish in the brunch cafe, we reckon it’s a risk if you don’t have great kitchen team cause some people might be very sensitive with the fishy smell.
    We intentionally ordered this one and hands down to their kitchen team, the Baramundi wasn’t fishy at all and it was very flavourful.temperance-society-19The salad and tomato chutney added different texture to the dish; They also balanced out the overall taste.

  • Chocolate Planet
    Served with chocolate and orange panna cotta, oreo and pistachio granola, mixed berries coolie, brownie, banana brulee and seasonal fruits in a chocolate bowl.
    See how beautiful it was, the Chocolate Planet; Though you need to be careful when you want to move around the plate cause it’s bit wobbly.
    We love the perfect combination of oreo and pistachio granola, mixed berries coolie, brownie.
    Orange panna cotta gave an incredible taste of sweet and sour; Natural sweets came from the fresh seasonal fruits in a chocolate bowl.
    Everything was meticulously executed and great effort for Temperance Society kitchen team.
    What an amazing dish!!
  • Orange Blossom Hotcakes
    Served with strawberries, dates, ricotta, vanilla bean mascarpone, mango, raw fruit confetti & honeycomb with butter scotch sauce.
    It was nicely presented with spread of natural fruits on the side.
    It wasn’t the best hotcake we’ve ever tried but this one was definitely above the average hotcake. We’re still definitely RECOMMENDED their Hotcakes!!
    Everything was well executed, the hotcake was crisp on the edge and it wasn’t dry inside.

Overall, we had an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING brunch @Temperance Society, it’s one of the best brunch spot we’ve ever visited this year. The dishes are so impeccable!
